A fair level of fluency and some knowledge of France and its culture are required, but interest and enthusiasm are more important.
This intermediate course requires a working knowledge of German. Emphasis is on the spoken word, conversation and discussion using a variety of written material. The textbook for this year's course will be Themen 2 Aktuell (publ.Hueber).
We speak everyday, idiomatic German covering anything from personal news to current affairs. Material is recorded on location or sent from our correspondents in Germany. We look at the German way of life and German perceptions of Britain. A good knowledge of spoken German is needed.
For those who have no Latin or who have grown rusty. We use 'Disce Latinum' by R.O. Marshall as a starter, take a look at Latin 'Tags', inscriptions, epitaphs and horticultural terms.This covers a wide range of interests as well as helping those who are interested in languages. As we improve we hope to look at literary passages.
Using 'Contatti 1' Text Book and Activity Book, our aim is to learn sufficient of the language to make visits to Italy more enjoyable. This is the third part of a three year course. A reasonable amount of homework is expected.

A group for those who, at some time or another (not necessarily recently) have had a few years' study of the language. Classes start with reading and translation of Internet items from Russian newspapers or the BBC Russian Service and continue with grammar and reading of modern Russian texts.
